You are invited to our wedding šŸ˜

Wahoo!!! Our wedding videos are here….3 different versions.

As you might imagine, Hans and I did not want a traditional wedding. Getting married in our 60’s seemed reason enough to stray from the script. Factor in my stage 4 cancer and we knew that everything about our legal union would be unconventional.

That’s kind of our brand anyway!

Unconventional in this case meant

That the kids joined Hans and me for an amazing celebration of our marriage in December. Meaning that our offspring would not be flying in from their roosts around the country. That dinner in December had proved to be the perfect family merriment. Extremely personal and about ALL of us…We toasted and sang and cried. In my memory, it was a perfect night.

So much emotion Where do they get their irreverence?

So no offspring, no white dress, no formal wedding party, no ring exchange, no glass smashing, no first dance, no cake cutting.

Once upon a time, both Hans and I had ā€œbeen there, done thatā€ and it had been amazing. But, this time around we weren’t young newlyweds. We were not riding into the sunset together towards our glorious unwritten life. Quite the opposite.

Hans and I had been through some challenging times over the past 15+ years but nothing like this. ā€œThisā€ was scary and hard and would not end well. Nevertheless, Hans was prepared to formally pledge his commitment to be with me….through the sickness….for the worst.

I searched for a videographer and found Ron through a referral. We offered him our vision for the wedding day video. In our version, the recording would reflect the pure joy and energy of the day.

I warned Ron that our celebration would be a bit unscripted. We were letting it unfold with some constraints. We were trusting Ron to create an organic and authentic telling of what occurred.

Looking back to the day. I am #1 amazed and #2 grateful….so grateful…..that I had no pain no symptoms on January 19, 2023. My cancer, maybe reluctantly, but genuinely, gave me the day off. Thank you cancer.
