Hans and I are on the way to meet Doctor  Chamberlain, a surgeon who specializes in colon cancer treatment. Dr Becky found him and apparently he comes highly recommended. We feel hopeful but scared and realize that our perspective is about to change for better or for worse.

So, we’re on our way home after lunch in Largo  and we are both feeling very optimistic after meeting with Dr. Chamberlain. The office was pretty disorganized and the nurse was quite a character telling us about her pregnancy at 41 and her 21 year old bad seed daughter etc. but the bottom line is that we both really like Dr. Chamberlain. His interpretation of the CT scan was optimistic and he felt like the treatment plan will be minimally invasive in a lot of different ways. Next step is to have a colonoscopy and we are waiting for the G.I. doctor to call me back hopefully today. We will also have a CT done that is much more accurate and that is scheduled for May 5. Next time we see Dr. Chamberlain is May 10 on Hans’ birthday… happy birthday Hans. Funny story for you…Today, when I asked the doctor what foods I can eat, he said “you can be on a see food  diet…if you see it, you can eat it.” Subsequently, Hans began googling seafood restaurants because he thought I could only eat fish and shrimp and other seafood.  Apparently the Netherlands, where Hans is from,  is not in on the joke.

PS. We never saw Doctor Chamberlain again. I got a call from his nurse, who said ,  “I have some bad news.”  She then went on to explain that the Doctor is no longer practicing there.  Ok.  First of all, no one should start a conversation with a cancer patient with “I have some bad news!”

Secondly, shit, what do we do now?
