Hans and I dropped off Chester for his neuter and then he’ll go to kitty town to get adopted. While I was there, the Vet took me to see some other kittens and cats that I could foster.  I’ll be going back this afternoon to pick up a black and white male with an injured left leg. He’ll be in foster to determine if the leg needs amputation but hopefully it will heal.

And the latest cancer news is…..

GOOD!

Although my white count is low, the rest of my labs looked good and most importantly the tumors are shrinking. Dr. Barry told us that we had basically three options at this point.

  1. discontinue treatment. This is not a great option, because we are almost guarantee that the tumors will begin to grow in 4 to 6 months
  2. Continue with chemo with or without the nasty drug. He explained that the nasty drug is certainly doing it’s job but the treatment without it also works to a lesser degree.
  3. Switch to the pill form of chemo, which can be two weeks on two weeks off or one week on one. The negatives with that seem to be that we have to customize it to minimize symptoms which can include diarrhea and mouth, sores, and increased neuropathy.

We all agreed that for now we will stick with the treatment without the nasty drug and begin it next week to give my body time to produce some more white blood cells. I am fairly anemic, which explains why I feel rather exhausted. Dr. Barry feels that in one weeks time I should be less anemic and so we have scheduled the next chemo round for the 20th …after that we will skip treatment until after the wedding so I will have five weeks off. 🙂 he said that was his wedding present to me

I know you’re wondering, did I sing my latest song for the Doctor? Hans had asked me distinctly not to and I told him I wouldn’t unless Dr. Barry asked for a song …which he did! Happily I started in the right key and on the right note and was able to sing a lovely rendition of “just eat meat”much to Dr. Barry’s delight.

We had an amazing dinner with our good friends Mike and Lee who were kind enough to include Everett and Yvonne. We had happy hour on their dock which was beautifully lit by the setting sun. Dinner, as usual, when Lee is  in charge, was an orchestrated and delicious affair. At one point, when we were walking on the pier, Lee  turned to me and said “I love you so much. We are going to have many happy days ahead of us together.”  Without missing a beat, I turned to her and said “we are going to have many happy YEARS together.” It was a realization for me that I feel optimistic as well as a reminder to continually treasure the days while I hope for the years.
