Happy would be 89th birthday Mommy.
As i was watching the puppies playing today, I reflected on how happy I was to have them here. With Hans’ help, they are very little trouble and bring lots of joy. Baxter seems to enjoy them as well and they love him.

I decided to write the following email. I’m starting to realize that often we don’t tell people how much we value their assistance or friendship or the little things they do. I think it’s important to let people know that you respect them. It’s not hard to do, but so often we don’t think about it.
With that in mind, and because I need to let them know that I’ll be out of town in November, I sent the following email:
Hi Ladies,
I hope you are all doing well. I wanted to get in touch to let you know how wonderful it has been to have my two foster puppies with me.
The day Shona called to ask me to foster them was the day I had been told that my chemo was on hold for another week, which turned into two weeks with hurricane Ian. Had she called a day earlier, I would’ve had to turn her down because I thought I was heading into a chemo session. Had she called a few days later, I would’ve had to turn het down because we were heading into a hurricane. The timing seemed like kismet.
Knowing that fostering makes me so happy, my partner Hans has given me the gift of his time and efforts to care for the puppies when I cannot. I have never raised little dogs, especially Doxy/terrier mixes before. All my small breed foster puppies were placed in forever homes at eight or nine weeks old. Watching these two grow and learn has been a treat.
Penelope is a true companion dog and is content to sit on your lap. run around a little bit and come back and sit in your lap. Paddington looks and acts much more like a long-haired dachshund and he’s very smart and adventurous. He looks out for his sister and she takes her cues from him.
Both Penelope and Paddington are wonderful at my call back command and come running as soon as I whistle, their eyes bright and their tails wagging. They are not content to go on their way and finish playing until Hans or I been thoroughly kissed.
I am mystified why they have not been adopted, but perhaps all adoptions are slow right now? If, for some strange reason, they are not adopted by early November, I’ll ask you to find a different foster home for them. My family has been waiting over a year and a half to have my father buried with military honors at Arlington National cemetery and we finally have a date for his service I’ll be gone from November 9th through the 13th.
thank you all for everything you do, and do so well! I think until someone has been deep into animal rescue, they cannot appreciate how much dedication it takes.
Best regards,
Debra Starr

And now a text from my sister that was too good not to share…
Her: Doing better today?
Me:. Yes. I found the right dosage of the RSO so I’m pretty mellow but not particularly mobile.
Her: Mobility is overrated. Mellow rocks
