Meow Now. That’s the name of the 501 C3 in Pinellas County that we hope to emulate. Today I felt hopeful that I can continue to make a difference in the Animal community. Sue and I met with Chief Sarah Brown for Manatee County Animal Welfare and the volunteer coordinator, Janine, to discuss how we can organize all the trappers and care for the community cat colonies in Manatee County. We spent a bit of time talking about my cancer and what was ahead of me and I was able to do so without too many tears. It’s always nice to get the information out to people who want to hear it because sometimes they are afraid to ask. But true friends generally want to hear how you’re feeling, how you’re doing and what lies ahead. My advice as to the amount you share is “read the room”. Cancer can spook some people and make them feel uncomfortable when all they really wanted to say is “how are you doing “ To which your response should be “doing fine.” I find a lot of my friends approach the subject delicately and start their sentence with, “if you don’t mind me asking..” To which I honestly reply that they can ask me anything…as I’ve said before, I’m an open book!
